Description:
Dr. Rosales’ pilot project employs mixed methods to investigate the effects of stress on drinking and eating behaviors among individuals who drink heavily and have obesity. The study has two primary aims: (1) to assess how various levels of stress influence eating and drinking behaviors in a large sample, and (2) to explore the lived experiences of individuals with heavy drinking and obesity, including their treatment preferences (N = 30 or until saturation).
The first aim focuses on examining the direction and temporality of the relationship between
stress and eating/drinking behaviors. The second aim seeks to inform the development of tailored interventions for this population by understanding participants’ perspectives and preferences. Findings from this study will be used to support a future NIH grant application proposing an intervention targeting eating and drinking behaviors in this population.
