Pilot Projects

Our Pilot Project Award Program is designed for project leads interested in studying substance use disorders and chronic disease in vulnerable populations.

Pilot Project Award Program

The COBRE Center for Addiction and Disease Risk Exacerbation (CADRE) Pilot Project Award Program supports research on the biopsychosocial mechanisms by which substance use disorders (SUDs) increase the risk for or exacerbate chronic diseases, particularly in vulnerable populations.  CADRE is not currently accepting applications for Pilot Project Lead.

LEARN MORE

Program Highlights:

  • Interdisciplinary Focus: Projects are open to early-career investigators across various disciplines, including sociology, economics, anthropology, psychology, and medicine.
  • Funding & Support: Each award provides substantial funding and access to CADRE’s administrative, clinical laboratory, and community engagement cores.
  • Career Advancement: The program aims to enhance the research quality and scope at the intersection of substance use and chronic disease, supporting early-career faculty in securing independent funding.

Eligibility:

  • Candidates should be early-career faculty at Brown University who have not received an R01 or similar grant as PI/PD.
  • Research topics should focus on the relationship between substance use and chronic diseases, such as the impact of alcohol on cancer or cardiovascular disease.

Why Apply?

Join CADRE to leverage our resources, mentorship, and funding to propel your research and career. Our program is designed to support your transition to an independent, R01-funded investigator, while making a meaningful impact on public health.
