Project Leaders

Our Project Leader Award Program gives researchers the opportunity to fund their projects and work with our faculty.

Project Leader Award Program

The COBRE Center for Addiction and Disease Risk Exacerbation (CADRE) offers a unique opportunity for early-career investigators to advance their careers through our Project Leader (PL) Award Program. Focused on the intersection of substance use disorders (SUDs) and chronic diseases in vulnerable populations, CADRE provides comprehensive support to help you secure independent funding and establish a successful research career.

CADRE is currently accepting applications from early-career investigators for our Research Project Award Program. This program supports research on the biopsychosocial mechanisms by which substance use disorders (SUDs) increase the risk for or exacerbate chronic diseases, particularly in vulnerable populations. Annual support of up to $200,000 will be provided. Intent submissions are due by Friday, June 13, 2025.

Benefits of Being a Project Leader

  • Funding & Resources: Receive COBRE funding for 2-3 years to conduct interdisciplinary research on SUDs and chronic diseases.
  • Mentorship & Development: Gain individualized mentorship from experts in the field, access to professional development workshops, annual symposiums, and scientific conferences.
  • Research Support: Utilize state-of-the-art labs, project management assistance, and a robust network of CADRE core resources.

Eligibility & Expectations:

  • Open to early-career investigators without prior R01 or equivalent funding.
  • Projects must focus on SUDs and chronic diseases, particularly in underrepresented minority populations.
  • Awardees are expected to produce significant publications and pursue NIH R01 funding by the second year.

Why Apply?

Join CADRE to leverage our resources, mentorship, and funding to propel your research and career. Our program is designed to support your transition to an independent, R01-funded investigator, while making a meaningful impact on public health.
