Description:
Dr. Gunn’s pilot project utilizes mixed methods to examine the impact of perinatal cannabis use on postpartum depression (PD) in both the moment and across the postnatal period. Their project has two aims: to examine the event-level and longitudinal impact of cannabis use (CU) on PD symptoms and to evaluate the impact of CU on mother-infant interactions and PD via multiple methods. Participants are pregnant people who use cannabis (target N = 20). Study procedures include a baseline visit, up to two virtual pregnancy retention assessments, a delivery call postpartum, a virtual assessment at six weeks postpartum, and a dyadic assessment at six months postpartum. Three, two-week ecological momentary assessment (EMA) bursts occur at baseline, six weeks postpartum, and six months postpartum. It is hypothesized that CU will be associated with reductions in depressed mood at the event-level but that greater CU will be associated with PD symptoms over time. The investigators also predict that greater CU will be associated with poorer mother-child interactions.
